The FDA has approved the drug Jalyn for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia
On June 14, 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the drug Jalyn (dutasteride 0.5 mg and tamsulosin 0.4 mg) for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate gland.
Dutasteride is a 5α-reductase inhibitor, tamsulosin is an α1-adrenergic receptor blocker. The combination of these two drugs has been well studied and is the most effective treatment for BPH. The high efficiency and good tolerability of this combination have been proven. Dutasteride helps to reduce the prostate gland, and tamsulosin lowers the tone of the smooth muscles of the prostate gland, the neck of the bladder, the prostatic part of the urethra, facilitates the outflow of urine. At the same time, the symptoms of obstruction and irritation associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia decrease.
The drug is contraindicated in women and children, as well as in patients with hypersensitivity to dutasteride or tamsulosin.
