The method of application of Zyrtec® and doses
The drug Zyrtec® is prescribed orally.
- Adults and children over 6 years of age are prescribed at a dose of 10 mg (1 tab.) / day. Adults – 10 mg 1 time / day; children – 5 mg 2 times / day or 10 mg 1 time / day. Sometimes an initial dose of 5 mg may be sufficient to achieve a therapeutic effect.
- In case of renal insufficiency and in elderly patients, the dose of the drug should be adjusted depending on the amount of QC.
- QC can be calculated based on the concentration of serum creatinine according to the following formula:
- For men: CC (ml/min) = [140 – age (years)] x Body weight (kg)/72 x Serum creatinine (mg/dl);
- The CC for women can be calculated by multiplying the resulting value by a factor of 0.85.
- For adult patients with renal and hepatic insufficiency, the dose is set according to the table (see the instructions)
- Patients with impaired liver function alone do not need to adjust the dosage regimen.

Zyrtec® vs Benadryl
Allergies and itching-related problems are fairly common conditions that many people around the world face. Doctors often recommend taking anti-allergic medications to manage the symptoms and get relief. In recent years, Zyrtec® and Benadryl have become two popular choices for dealing with allergies and itching. However, before choosing one of these drugs, it is necessary to understand their features and determine the most appropriate option depending on the patient’s mobile conditions.
Zyrtec®, also known as cetirizine, is a new generation non-sedative antihistamine. This drug works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance that causes allergic reactions in the body. Zyrtec® is widely used to treat seasonal allergies such as pollen allergies, as well as food allergies and insect bites. Zyrtec® is known to be effective in controlling itching and reducing swelling in allergic reactions. In addition, its long-lasting effect for 24 hours makes it convenient to use once a day.
Benadryl contains dipenhydramine, which is a sedative antihistamine. It also blocks histamine receptors, which helps reduce allergic symptoms. Benadryl is widely used to relieve the feeling of itching, nasal discharge and redness of the eyes. It can also be used for certain allergic skin reactions such as insect bites or hives. The main advantage of Benadryl is its rapid onset of action, which occurs within 15-30 minutes after ingestion.
The criteria for comparing these two drugs include their effectiveness, side effects, duration of action and the possibility of use in children and pregnant women.
- Effectiveness: Both drugs are considered effective in eliminating allergic symptoms. However, some studies show that Zyrtec® may be more effective in controlling the symptoms of itching.
- Side effects: Both drugs can cause drowsiness and dizziness, although Benadryl is more likely to cause severe sedation. In addition, Zyrtec® is usually well tolerated by most patients, while Benadryl can cause more side effects such as dry mouth and constipation.
- Duration of action: Benadryl is effective for about 4-6 hours, while Zyrtec® provides a long-lasting effect of up to 24 hours.
- Use in children and pregnant women: Zyrtec® may be safe for use in children from 2 years of age and pregnant women if the appointment and dosage are carried out by a doctor. Benadryl, on the other hand, can be prescribed to children from 6 years old and pregnant women under certain conditions, but only after consulting a doctor.
Zyrtec® vs Claritin
Zyrtec® and Claritin are two popular drugs widely used to treat allergic reactions. Both drugs belong to the group of antihistamines and are designed to relieve symptoms such as runny nose, itching, lacrimation and skin rashes. However, there are certain differences between these drugs that must be taken into account when choosing the most appropriate medicine.
Zyrtec®, or cetirizine, is a histamine receptor blocker in the body. It reduces the manifestations of allergic reactions by reducing the release of histamine, the substance responsible for the onset of allergy symptoms. Due to its long-term effect, the effect of the drug lasts up to 24 hours after taking a single dose. Zyrtec® is usually safe for most patients, including children from 6 years of age.
Claritin, or loratadine, is also an antihistamine that helps to cope with allergic symptoms. It suppresses the release of histamine and reduces the intensity of an allergic reaction in a healthy person. Claritin may be more preferable if the patient has certain risk factors, such as liver problems or taking other drugs that interact with Zyrtec®. It is also considered safe for children over 2 years old.
It should be noted that both drugs are effective and well tolerated by most patients. However, some people may experience side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or dry mouth. In such cases, it is recommended to consult a doctor to determine the most appropriate drug or treatment regimen.
Moreover, since each person is unique and can respond individually to different medications, it is important to discuss their symptoms and needs with a doctor or pharmacist. Only a medical professional will be able to take into account all the advantages and disadvantages of each drug, as well as take into account the peculiarities of your health and medical history.
In conclusion, Zyrtec® and Claritin are two popular antihistamines for the treatment of allergic reactions that deal with allergy symptoms. However, each drug has its own characteristics, and the choice between them should be based on the specific needs of the patient and the recommendations of a medical professional. Therefore, before taking any medicine, it is always important to consult a doctor or pharmacist.
